Dark Poetry Submissions Open – Exit Device

I am not organizing this collection of poetry, just helping spread the word of this project for another. Some of you may be familiar with my work with Oliver Sheppard. Exit Device is his mastermind project.

Project Details:

  • Deadline: September 10th
  • Submit to:exitdevicezine@gmail.com

Words From Oliver:

I hope to get Issue No. 1 out by Halloween. The deadline to submit is September 10th. EXIT DEVICE will be an old school, photocopied, saddle-stapled, black and white DIY zine. It will have no web or social media presence save for the email address above. Right now I cannot afford to pay contributors anything save for contributor’s copies. Looking for dark, weird, bizarre, etc poetry. Avant-garde and experimental stuff is welcome, as is traditional verse. EXIT DEVICE will probably come out once per year.

The name “Exit Device” is from jargon used in the euthanasia/assisted suicide community; the term refers to any mechanism or apparatus that ends its user’s life. The cover image of issue 1 is “Daguerreotype of Nothing” from 1850, an image held by the Getty Museum. I’ve gotten permission from the Getty Museum to use the image for the cover of the zine.

So far, about 20 poems have been accepted. I’ll probably include no more than 50. If you submit and I’ve hit that limit, it may be considered for Issue No. 2.

THIS IS CLOSED NOW

Submissions Open – Anthologies

It came to me recently about two anthologies looking for submissions. One is a dystopian themed and the other is a urban legends one. Here’s the information.

Burning Willow Press

Announcing “Crossroads in the Dark: Urban Legends” is Open for Submissions

ANNOUNCEMENT!

At Burning Willow Press, we love horror. Don’t get us wrong we love science fiction and fantasy as well but we want you to look at your own past. Remember when you were a little tyke and possibly around a bonfire or cook out or even camping with friends in the scouts? Yeah I sure do. Now, remember the best part of that experience? The stories! Everyone around the campfire had a URBAN LEGEND that they had sworn on their mother’s death and crossed their hearts and hoped to die themselves that what they were telling you was true. Whether a ghost story or a supernatural event or something that just wasn’t right in the house that night. For inspiration on this, I urge you to watch a movie called “Urban Legend (1998)” starring, Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger himself), Jared Leto (American Psycho, Lord of War, and Fight Club) and Tara Reid (American Pie, Scrubs). This was not the inspiration for this anthology it is just an idea of what an urban legend is. We want to see your best authored rendition of an urban legend in this anthology and here is what we want for criteria:

Let’s have fun with this anthology! We had a blast with “Crossroads in the Dark” and want this one to be even better.

Submit the stories to edds.burningwillowpress@gmail.com with “Urban Legends Anthology submission” in the subject line. Please, for consideration, allow us time to read them and get back to you. Last year there were a lot of submissions to go through and it came down to a hard decision on who stayed and who had to go. A couple got offers for expansions into novellas and novels came out of the submission process. Look for those to come out soon!

Get your stories together and be ready to scare the bejesus out of everyone! Good luck everyone!

A Dystopian Anthology

What will the end of the world be like? What do you envision for a world after? This is the topic of this anthology and we want to know what you imagine a Dystopian future would be like….and anything goes! But be original. Flying cars and nuclear holocausts are all fine and dandy, but have fun with it and stretch your imagination as far as it will go…or even farther. Make us sad, make us angry, make us cringe…..
