Essay III — Thou Shalt Not Kill (Unless I Say So)

Essay Excerpt:

“Murder is not just an act.
It is a rupture.

It breaks something in the person who commits it, whether they admit that or not. This is why war does not end when the fighting stops. This is why soldiers come home altered. The psyche cannot reconcile the self who believes I am a good person with the self who has taken a life.

That fracture has a name: moral injury.”
