The Memoir Project Canceled

For those that have been following me on social media for some time you may have noticed me talking about a memoir I’ve struggled to write for years. This memoir is one that has been difficult for many reasons, the biggest reason being that it deals with some very personal things from my childhood. This is a story I feel is important to tell, it’s one I want to tell, but sadly it is one that will currently to be canceled on my projects list.

I’ve been open about the childhood trauma and abuse I have survived. From living with a narcissist parent to my journey coping with a very abusive sibling, these are difficult topics for me to tackle. I work everyday on self-care to help me cope with the things I’ve endured, but I’ve realized, though the story is very important for raising awareness, it is one I cannot bring myself to continue at this point in time.

These struggles and my survival stories are hard to understand, at times, for those I have told them to. As a writer, I have often found that I cannot find the right words to express my life or my emotions while truly believing that all that I have endured have given me strength through surviving and passing on the wisdom I have gained through my traumas.

I shared some of my stories here under ‘story-time’ articles, but those, I have come to realize, only highlighted my personal beliefs of my life and family through a ‘nicer’ filter. Though my life had what felt like brief moments of general ‘goodness’, those are the moments I would like to hold closest to me. The good times got me through a lot of the darkness, which seemed around every corner I turned growing up and even into my adult life.

I also believe this memoir or set of memoirs would upset some of my family upon publication. I may live a more open lifestyle and life many of my family prefers privacy and out of respect to those that would want this I will grant it to them, for the time being.

One day the story/stories will be released for readers, but now is not the time to do it. I apologize. The closest readers will get to see into my life is through my dark poetry. Two collections are currently out, but plans of a third is in the works.

Interview with Janeal Falor

Bachman: You are best known for being a fantasy romance author with your Mine series, do you have any plans to change genres?

Falor: For a few years, I’ve played around writing some sweet romances, but have never been serious about them. Mostly I’ve been practicing writing them and learning the genre. I’m finally getting serious about publishing some, probably within the next year or so, but under the pen name of Jane Danforth. Under my own name, I’ll probably stick with fantasy with a side of romance. Getting lost in fantasy worlds is my favorite, with kissing of course!

Bachman: Is there anything you’re working on now you can share with us?

Falor: Yes! It’s the first book in a brand new series, The Fading Oracle. Aira, the last oracle, sees a vision of losing her powers and must fight to stop that from happening. Did I mention there are dragon gods? And a hunky love interest, of course!

It’s written, but still needs to go through some editing. I’d also like to plot out the rest of the series before I release it, just in case I need to tweak anything in this first book.

Bachman: You mentioned a box set, what can you tell us about the story you wrote that’s included?

Falor: Sure! Reader’s have often asked me for more books in the Mine series. Last year, I had a reader suggest she’d like to know about a specific character, and the idea really interested me. This year, I wrote it! I did make it so it can stand on its own if you haven’t read the Mine series, but there’s also lots of fun pieces if you have read the Mine series.

For those familiar with the Mine series, the book, Mine to Defy, is about Tawny, a Princess from another country who came to help those struggling in the Mine series. She became a tarnished in the last book, forced to become bald, had her face tattooed, and made barren. This story takes place as this princess returns to her country and to a people that aren’t ready for what she’s become. She discovers a plot against the tarnished, and fights to save those like her, discovering herself in the process. And finds love along the way, because I love kissing books!

Bachman: When we talked you named other authors, what about these authors did you like that made you want to work with them?

Falor: J.A. Culican is putting the set together. She’s a great, USA Today Bestselling author with some cool books out! When I found out she was putting together a fantasy box set, I was excited to become part of it and hopefully learn some new skills from her.

Bachman: What’s the box set going to be called?

Falor: Speed Dating with Authors: Fantasy Novel Edition

Bachman: Will it be primarily a romance box set?

Falor: It will be a fantasy box set. I know that my book has some romance in it, because kissing rocks, but fantasy is the main genre.

Bachman: When you’re not writing, what do you do to entertain yourself?

Falor: I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I also love to garden, though I’m mostly good at killing plants and not making them grow. And as long as I don’t have to cook, I really enjoy spending time in the kitchen.

Bachman: You’ve been writing for some time now, any advice you’d like to share to someone just coming into the business?

Falor: Write. A lot. I know it may sound silly, but often writers want to write, but we get caught up in doing so many other things, sometimes we forget the main point is to actually write. While you’re writing a lot, read even more. There’s so much we can learn from reading other books, not plagiarizing them, but discovering what you like and don’t like about them, and then applying that to your writing in your own way.

Thank you for having me!

The Unwritten Stories

Over the years, I announced different projects. Works in progress that never seemed to come out. Things that readers requested either by pm or by email. Sometimes these requests would come in the form of questions that gave me inspiration such as Whatever happened to Eshu or Will we ever get information about the other past lives of Lilith? Some questions were answered if you knew where to look, for example Eshu from The Blasphemer Series appeared in Chasing Shadows by Kindra Sowder. He also misbehaved from what I was told.

Stories were announced and were written on, but never made it to publication. Sometimes this happens in the writing industry. Now, with that said, I fully planned on publishing many stories. If I hadn’t planned on it, I wouldn’t on some level mentioned or announced them. The Lives of Lilith and more on Maxwell were both written, but I had never finished them. Maxwell’s book was written with Lilith/Adele telling the stories to their youngest family members, so they would learn along with the readers. Martel, the prequel work of The Painting of Martel also got worked on, but I put a pause in it to work on more pressing matters.

I even worked on a more children friendly work, but it never came to light. My feelings on it were that it wasn’t feeling finished when I wrote all the stories for it, so feeling it incomplete I didn’t want to move forward on that project.

The Mephistopheles Chronicles a co-authorship project between me and Kindra Sowder was put on pause as both of us got busy with work projects. It’s a crossover of The Blasphemer Series and her Van Helsing characters. This project is paused, but not permanently as I’m aware, so it remains a work-in-progress between the two of us.

Many stories, upon their writing being finished, felt better in a short story format and were and are being polished to be in a series of releases, by whom I’m not fully sure, now of writing this. I can say, with full confidence, some of them are being cleaned and polished to be included in Little Lunacies. I will cover this fully in an official announcement.

This post was inspired when I began digging through older files. I then realized all of my ‘back-burner stories’ reminded me of a story I read: Fiction by Ryan Lieske. The tagline of that book is ‘Sometimes, a character is so strong, it refuses to be buried’. I highly recommend every reader check this out. All I kept thinking about was all the stories that were not finished, characters that had personalities and lives and how they were ‘living’ without being given life.

With this update I will say, in some fashion or form all that I have worked on will eventually make its way to all of you. I will make an announcement when something from The Unwritten Stories log comes to life, perhaps even a book dedicated just to the unfinished but becoming finished. The sky is open right now for me; I have no limits on my creativity, and I will take advantage of this new spark fully.

Southern Fried Autopsies: An Anthology

Southern Fried…
Not necessarily an odd term if you live in the south or have visited the southern states of the US. In the south, we have monster trucks, lots of fishing, hunting, beaches, humidity, peaches, and a whole slew of stories that happened during the time of Northern Aggression. But what was Southern Fried? What does that really mean? It was once referred to as something, typically some kind of dead animal, that was battered, crispy, deep-fried in oil, and while tasted incredible, was artery clogging and blood pressure rising food. Not anymore.

Now Southern Fried has been attached to a set of autopsies and those files were placed in this incredible collection.
Short stories that will test your knowledge of the southern way of thinking, the southern charm, the hospitality, and the tales all by authors that have ties to the area, or still live here. Southern Fried Autopsies is sure to raise your levels to unsafe highs as you dive right in with both feet to the deep end.

Y’all come right on over, ya hear?

With contributions, stories, and poetry from P Mattern, Mark Slade, Kerry Alan Denney, DS Roland, P. Mattern, Rollin Jewett, L Bachman, SL Kerns, Edd Sowder, Patricia Stover, TJ Weeks, Thomas Vaughn, Cindy Johnson, DC Phillips, Kris Weeks, Olin Wish, John L Davis IV, Donna Owens, Veronica Smith, Mirren Hogan, David Johnson, and James Master.

Release Date: December 1, 2018
Cover Design: Bachman Designs

At first, you shrug it off as a figment of your imagination or a flying pest, but then you feel it again… and again… and again. Turning you do not see anything there. Nothing, not even a shadow. In the far reaches of your sight, you start to make out a somehow familiar figure, arising from the darkness of the corner of your room. You reach for the switch of the nightstand lamp only to knock it over to the floor. Your fear starts to rise along with the hairs on your neck. A familiar voice comes across the room… “Why didn’t you hear me…?”

Welcome back to the Crossroads.
