Studio Notes

Behind-the-scenes glimpses into the writing, illustration, mapping, research, and creative problem-solving behind my projects. Sometimes it’s craft, sometimes it’s process, and sometimes it’s simply finding an unconventional solution to get the work done.

Thinking Outside the Box as an Artist

While creating a hand-drawn fantasy map for a client, I ran into an unexpected problem: the angle required to trace my own artwork was putting strain on my wrists. Rather than purchasing specialized equipment for a single project, I improvised a solution using a scanned image, my laptop screen, paper, and painter’s tape.

Creative work often involves more than writing, drawing, or designing. Sometimes it means adapting, problem-solving, and finding unconventional ways to keep a project moving forward when deadlines, budgets, or circumstances demand it.
