Writing Consultation

Every writer reaches a point where they can feel something isn’t working, but they can’t quite see why.

The story is there. The characters are there. The idea still carries energy. Yet somewhere between intention and execution, the work loses its force.

Maybe the emotional weight isn’t reaching the reader. Maybe the atmosphere isn’t holding the scene. Maybe a character feels distant when they should feel alive. Maybe the prose says one thing while the heart of the story is trying to say another.

For most of my life, I’ve been having conversations with writers in these exact moments.

Long before I was publishing my own work, I was the person friends brought their stories to when they were stuck. We talked about character development, emotional depth, atmosphere, symbolism, pacing, horror, Gothic literature, and why certain scenes weren’t landing the way they intended. Over time, those conversations became a deeper practice: helping writers see their work more clearly—not by rewriting it, but by helping them understand what was already there.

My perspective is shaped by more than a decade as an independent writer working across fiction, nonfiction, poetry, editorial content, and ghostwriting projects. As an award-winning horror author, I’ve spent years studying how atmosphere, psychology, structure, character, and language work together to create emotionally resonant stories.

During a period away from the industry, I also completed a self-directed writing intensive—a personal writing bootcamp designed to refine and pressure-test my craft across multiple forms and disciplines. That process strengthened my understanding of discipline, revision, and the mechanics of storytelling under constraint.

Over time, I developed a personal framework for working through creative blockage and narrative clarity known as The Purging Method. It emerged from years of both writing and working with other writers in moments where their work felt stuck between intention and execution, and where clarity needed to be restored before progress could continue.

Alongside my writing practice, I also have experience in graphic design and commercial creative work, which has shaped my understanding of audience engagement, visual communication, and how creative work functions beyond the page.

This is the foundation of my consultation practice.

I do not offer editing services. I will not rewrite your manuscript, line edit your prose, or tell you exactly how to write your story.

What I offer is informed literary perspective—rooted in years of writing, publishing, studying narrative, and helping other writers understand their work more deeply.

Together, we look at what your writing is trying to accomplish, where it is succeeding, where it is losing its impact, and what might be standing between intention and execution.

All manuscript discussion, narrative analysis, and creative guidance takes place within paid consultation sessions.

Whether you are working through a single scene, a character problem, a stalled manuscript, or a larger question about your writing, my goal is simple:

To help you see your work more clearly, and move forward with intention.

Sometimes a manuscript doesn’t need someone to change it. Sometimes it needs someone to help the writer understand what it is becoming.

What You Receive in a Paid Consultation

The paid session is where we move beyond general discussion and into focused, direct work on your writing.

Before the session, you may share a short excerpt of your work or a brief summary of your project so I can understand what you’re working with. During the consultation, we focus on the specific challenges you’re facing—whether that is structure, character, atmosphere, emotional clarity, pacing, or overall narrative direction.

Together, we work through your manuscript or concept in real time. I will help you identify where the writing is strong, where it loses clarity or impact, and what is affecting the overall experience of the piece. This is a conversational but highly focused process, shaped by close reading, narrative analysis, and interpretive feedback.

You will leave the session with a clearer understanding of:

• what your story is currently doing on the page
• where the emotional or narrative disconnects are occurring
• what strengths you can build from
• what is blocking clarity, momentum, or impact
• and what direction will help you move forward in the work

Depending on your needs, this may include guidance on structure, character development, thematic focus, tone, atmosphere, or voice consistency. In some cases, it may also involve reframing the core concept of the work so that the execution and intention align more closely.

You are not receiving edits or rewritten pages. You are receiving clarity, direction, and a structured understanding of your work that you can immediately apply to revision or continuation.

The goal is not to change your voice. The goal is to help you see it more clearly, and understand how to strengthen it without losing what makes it yours.

Testimonials

“I first met Lynn as a teenager through an online community, where we shared a love of vampire fiction. What began as conversations about stories soon grew into a small creative writing community, and ultimately into a friendship that has lasted more than 25 years.

Lynn’s talent as a writer and storyteller had a profound influence on me. Through her writing, she showed me how words could do more than simply tell a story—they could evoke emotion, create atmosphere, and bring ideas vividly to life. She taught me how to shape narrative, develop a voice, and express thoughts in ways that transcended my own limited vision at the time.

The confidence and skills I gained through her encouragement and example played a significant role in helping me pass my GCSE English Language. That achievement opened doors I never imagined possible and ultimately led me to a career in teaching.

Looking back, Lynn’s influence extends far beyond the stories we wrote together. She helped me discover my own voice and gave me the confidence to believe in my abilities. For that, and for more than two decades of friendship, creativity, and inspiration, I will always be grateful.”
